Atlas: I SEE A MERLIN! Confirmed Merlin! YES! WAIT. A young Merlin? More than one Merlin?? Do I detect time travel/magic?
Miriam: No time travel. Merlins reincarnate shortly after they die. Tungsten has met two in his lifetime before running into that young, scrawny Merlin who will outlive them all.
Nika: Sorry to butt in. Are your Merlins like a race?
Miriam: You’re not butting in at all! Merlins are born from the accumulation of dense magic. Each time one of them drops that dispersed magic re-assembles to create a new one. Merlins also don’t retain their memory. Each one has different personalities and abilities!
Atlas: Will there be snippets/flashbacks of the past Merlins throughout the story?
Miriam: Yes! The last Merlin was an OP badass! Since King Tungsten is the MC, the story follows his quest, but Merlin ‘may’ know about his previous self through Tungsten.
Atlas: Oh brilliant! I can feel there’s going to be great character development in that regard… & the potential dynamics between the two! You mentioned different personalities/abilities. Can you reveal current Merlin’s?
Miriam: The Merlin Tungsten meets in the beginning is a young astronomer who’s often anxious and nervous. He’s not strong but Tungsten’s strength and chiding influence him to work harder at his magic than just search the stars for bad omens and destruction.
Atlas: OOOOOH! An astronomer! Definitely a suiting occupation – no bias from me either! I REALLY like how it’s Tungsten who is guiding Merlin, and not the other way around. Great little twist on the formula, well played. Hmmm, is there more to this star searching you mention?
Miriam: I’m taking inspiration from my Dragon of Mirrors series for this one. In that universe, magic (called stellar) has traces of time in all things that were created. Merlin being of magic can sew the stars differently, just the purest and deadliest of creatures can talk to him and share what they know. Mostly on how they don’t like Tungsten because of the war. Another is because this version of Merlin can forsee the possibilities of the future, and stuff like that frightens him.
Faust: Yeah cool Miriam but WHY THE PARANOIA, HUH? WHAT’S HAPPENING TO THEM, HUH??
Miriam: LOOk HERE Faust, don’t go asking what my tender, naive little Merlin can’t handle. Jk, magic is dying so he’s in panic mode.
